Hughie was born at 9:22 on the 13th of December. Since his party wasn't until the 14th he refused to believe he was 4 until the party. Fine by me. I got an extra day of a 3 year old. There is something about my little buddy that I just adore. We had a lot of fun shopping for his party. He kept saying, "mom, its my birthday, so I'm in charge, so I get to choose." So I let him choose the paper plates, and the cupcakes, and pick a candle! :)
We threw together a last minute party. We started out by making home made ice cream.
Since the ice cream froze their little hands we headed down stairs for some party games. We played a bunch of balloon games, musical colors, pin the tail on the donkey etc. I learned from our Halloween party to make sure the games are non competitive, and it was sooooooo much better. We threw together a last minute party. I love the serious face in the picture. It is soooo Hugh.
We had to fit ALL the candles on there. And when I told him to make a wish he declared, "I don't like wishes." So there you have it.
We finished off the party with a pinata. It was a little dangerous inside. I never would have done one, but when his eyes filled with tears and he explained "Four year old parties ALWAYS have pinatas," I knew he was right. We are so thankful that Hugh is part of our family. We are hopeful that this birthday was a passage into a happy, little less emotional, more reasonable boy. He still loves balls, throwing, shooting, batting, and catching. He is a darling brother to Graham. And Geoff and I are his biggest fans.
Happy Birthday Buddy.

Fun little party for Hugie! We sure miss you guys!
4 years old?!? Holy cow. Good news though is that so far I have found that 4 is muuuuch nicer than 3! Haha.
