Foot...

Today I was thinking about a time I completely put my foot in my mouth. I was talking with one of my student's moms and after listening to her situation said, "Life isn't fair, is it?" I immediately regretted saying that, but how she responded has stuck with me for 4 years now. She said,
"No, because if life was fair we would have a lot less."

It really made me stop and count my blessings.

So when you're needing a reminder, don't forget to think about how life would really be if across the globe all the poverty, hunger, heart ache, illness, and instability was spread out and made "fair"...and then be grateful life isn't fair!

(disclaimer: this post is more for me than anyone)

I grew up in a large family and the phrase "life isn't fair" was heard quite a bit by all of us kids. My mom used to tell my brothers, "If life were fair, I'd buy you tampons too." It is good to keep a more subjective outlook.

Who did you say that to? I don't remember that! You are right though -- life isn't fair!

This is the kind of post I love the most; thanks for the great reminder today AnnMarie. I'm storing this away for the days when I feel unlucky. ...if life was fair we would have a lot less. So true.
