We did this last year (Jed was 2). He liked the gift but has been deeply traumatized for the last year at the loss of his candy (though we explained everything repeatedly and at great length, and he agreed to it!) This year, he has declared all month. "I am NOT trick or treating with that fairy, I HATE that fairy and I want my candy!" Nothing sways him. He knows he gets gifts at other times so he isn't interested in the super special wonderfulness we've promised. Argh! He is obsessed with candy! If you find anyone addressing this issue let me know. I think it is a brilliant idea. Too bad my sugar-boy doesn't agree!
