Or the title could be: Breathtaking. Gorgeous. Fabulous Family Day. Cape Cod. All would describe the wonderful adventure we took as a family.
The kids got up horribly early, so we were packed and loaded to head out to Cape Cod first thing. It is only about 2 1/2 hours from our home---or more if you're going on a Geoff detour, which we actually really enjoyed because we hadn't seen down town Worcester yet! The boys traveled well enough.
We finally got to a beach around 11:30. It was windy, Windy, WINDY. But luckily the sand was wet enough that it didn't blow around. I was worried it would deter the boys' excitement; but, boy was I wrong. Hugh was in the water in two seconds - running, kicking, splashing, and eventually rolling around. Graham too. He just kept crawling straight out, and was so ticked off when we would bring him back to shore.
We had lots of fun at the beach; but, when both kids started crying from being cold, we should've taken that as our sign. But no, I just had to try and feed them lunch there. That was when THE ATTACK happened. I was holding a quarter of a sandwich and trying to feed Graham, when all of the sudden from behind a seagull landed on my head, swooped the sandwich out of my hand and flew down the beach to mock me as it ate. I screamed SOOOOOOOOOOOO loud. Like, really, so so so loud. I didn't see it coming; and all of the sudden my head was just pushed forward and the sandwich was gone. EEeeewwww!
So, next we set off and found a park. It was a charming playground with the big toys set up as a light house and a boat. We picnicked and played until the boys were content.
teeter totter
MMMMmmmmmm
Across the street was a railroad museum. It was great and quick - which was what Graham was demanding. Once that apple was finished, he was ready for a nap...but, I wanted to see the museum first. I'm sure we'll go back. Hugh was in caboose heaven.
About .2 seconds after we were in the car both the boys were snoring. So Geoff and I decided to drive to the very tip of Cape Cod--and it was amazing. We really were in awe at the view. So here is the "stretch your arm a little further" picture of the two of us!
Next we took a stop at Cape Cod Light house. Take a peek at this little shot that I took with my dinky video camera. It really is THAT beautiful.
Graham is completely a Daddy's boy.
LOVERLY! (name the movie anyone?)
I'm not sure I was aware of how truly breathtaking it would be. But, I am already excited to go back. As you drive along the miles and miles of coast, you have these enormous trees and you just catch glimpses here and there of the massive body of water behind them.
When we pulled into the garage at 9 pm and Hugh asked, "When are we going on another car-cation?"
Soon little buddy. Soon.

Loved the story about the seagull! I would have screamed too. What a fun carcation!
Wow that looks gorgeous!!!! What a fun 'car-cation'!!!! Well, except for the seagull...have I mentioned how much I hate birds...a lot...I probably would have screamed louder!! Glad you are still alive :). Sounds like you have lots of fun adventures ahead of you out there!!
That all looks SO AMAZING! Especially since it is 106 degrees here today! But oh my gosh that is so beautiful! I can't believe you live so close to Cape Cod. How amazing!
I love the seagull story. I would have screamed to. Of course I would have probably chased after it to. LoL Looks like you guys are going to have lots of good family places to go!
hahahaha. classic story! love it! when we went to sea world as a family a seagull pooped on my moms hair and she was mortified... had to spend 30 min in the bathroom helping her get it all out. i hope you found something else for graham to eat! :) looks like an awesome little trip. and i am totally jealous. just told paul the other day that its totally my dream to just live in a cute little cottage, in a small town, where i go to antique shops, play on rope swings, and listen to country music :)
um, my fair lady. Duh. See you in two weeks. Almost soon enoughbto count in hours.
Wow. Honestly, I'm jealous. I've ALWAYS dreamed of living on the east coast. After coming back from Maryland on my mission, I thought for sure I'd end up back there some day but alas...
Keep the pictures coming. I love everything about that part of the country. It's so beautiful! I'd love to come visit this fall. Living in California makes me desperate for the Fall and I'm sure Massachusetts is the perfect place to get my colored leaf fix.
I love lighthouses. So fun! There are so many adventures to be had over there in MA! SO jealous.
I can't believe the seagull attacked you! It must not know how much you adore animals. :) I'm glad you guys had a good time, it looks amazing.
